WORKSHOP "Education for a Culture of Peace" PHOTOS
WORKSHOP
Within the fourth traditional International Conference "Education for a Culture of Peace", organized by "SARAJEVO TRIBUNE" in cooperation with CCRP (Center for Conflict Resolution - Peace-building Beirut, Lebanon), the seminar was held on Bjelasnica, where the students from Lebanon, Banja Luka, and Sarajevo actively participated. The purpose of this seminar was to connect young people from these very similar countries, to inform them and stimulate them to become creators of projects in their environment, crossing the barriers of ethnic communities and national countries. The leaders of the seminar were from the Center for Conflict Resolution - Peace-building (CCRP) Beirut, Lebanon. They represented a conceptual basis of education on one side, and gave the opportunity of practical testing through practices on the other side.
The subjects of the three days-lasting workshop were:
- Forming identity, "identity" before and after the war, determination, nationalism
- Sects and identity
- Understanding conflicts, reasons for their outbreaks
- Solving conflicts
- Non-violent communication, techniques for building a confidence and trust
- Confidence and solidarity
- Transforming conflicts (post-war period, reconciliation)
Definitely for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the students from Bosnia and Herzegovina of University of Sarajevo and Banja Luka, along with the students from Lebanon, who also participate in activities of CCRP Center, had the opportunity to try to express and explain their opinions when we talk about the terms such as "IDENTITY" and "NATIONALISM and NATIONAL", considering the similar political situations in BiH and Lebanon. Knowing and respecting our identity, something that is called "who we are", as well as building confidence and respect towards differences of others, are the only possible ways of establishing direct communication, cooperation and, finally, peace. A number of cultures that belong to different ethnic groups, different religions, multicultural environments, different languages and epistles, suggest that there are no "limits", "bridges", nor feelings of personal insecurity and distrust, as well as psychological barriers caused by war influences. Communication between nations is not only complex because of its diversity, but also overburden with a number of prejudices, stereotypes and unsolved problems from recent and distant past. Common opinion of these young people is that they see the possibility for modernization and better future in positive self-identifying, intercultural communication, understanding other's values, and developing a tolerance, as well as in sharing experiences of intercultural misunderstandings and prejudices.
